Production Team Spotlight - Mason Falk - Director

Mason Falk Director

Is this your first show with LPI? This is my second show with LPI.

What was the very first show that made you fall in love with theater? The very first show that made me fall in love with theater was Newsies. I was in middle school when my choir teacher brought in the film cut version of the show and showed it to us. I was in love from that point on.

If you had to describe your directing style in three words, what would they be? Collaborative, Exploratory, and Honest.

Do you have a favorite role or production you’ve ever been part of? One of my favorite productions and roles I have been in and been a part of was Tsar Nicholas the II in Anastasia. I was able to explore a fatherly role as well as portray a few different styles of acting in this role. I really became a fatherly figure to the kid that played Alexei. The cast got really close-knit and I was able to make a lot of new friends.

What would your dream show be? Either as director, actor, or both! My dream show for being a director would be to direct The Lion King. The Lion King takes a lot of preparation from all aspects of the show and would show all of my abilities. Two of my dream shows to be in as an actor would be Mamma Mia as one of the dads or The Addams Family as Fester.

Do you have any pre-show rituals, either as an actor or production team member? Some of my pre-show rituals as an actor are doing a lot of jumping and moving around. It helps me to loosen up and be as fluid as I can. It also allows my body to warm up and be ready for any dancing or movement I need to do. My pre-show ritual as a production team member is making sure my cast members know that they have done a great job and are going to do great today. A lot of work has gone into their job as an actor and it is important to make sure they know they are doing an amazing job!

Outside of theater, what hobbies or interests help you recharge? I enjoy singing, baking, and cooking. It allows me to enjoy different things.

What excites you most about working with our cast this summer? I am very excited to be able to help nurture the cast's talent that they bring. A community theatre's cast will have a wide range of talent, anywhere from beginning to advanced. Bringing these different levels of talent together and working with that is a very fun part of directing.

What is your day job? I am a student currently attending Concordia University Wisconsin pursuing a Theology degree to become a pastor and youth minister. Outside of that I hold a few part time and seasonal jobs.

What's your favorite song from The Addams Family? My favorite song from The Addams Family is either “Pulled” or “The Moon and Me”. These are two very playful songs that show a lot of emotions.

Who is your favorite Addams Family character? My favorite Addams Family character would be Fester or Lurch. Lurch shows a lot of emotions and has a decent amount of character development, eventually having a voice to convey actual messages. Fester is a comedic relief of the show, has an unrealistic love interest, and is just very well rounded, he is also one of my dream roles to play.
